Construction, real estate, home repair, architecture, and land development are not exactly the industries that come to mind when one thinks of branding and design. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care for a good logo.
Whether this is your first construction business or you’re trying to re-brand, it pays to make sure customers know who you are – and what you offer.
Factors to consider when designing your construction company logo
Your service as your logo.
Being literal means potential customers don’t need to decipher what your brand is all about. It’s fast, humble, and practical. A simple tool or silhouette will suffice in giving them a hint at what you do best. This would require though, that you zero in on one aspect of your product or service.
For example: if you build gazebos, use a gazebo in the design. For home repairs, go for a hammer or tape measure. Play it up with the solid fonts, maybe create an emblem, and tie everything together with suitable colors.
Opt for tech over tradition.
Are you in the business of installing solar panels? Do you specialize in building smart homes?
For builders who deal with plenty of tech in their work, perhaps a modern construction company logo is for you. Think minimalism: with clean, smooth lines, subdued hues, and geometric shapes. This is ideal for architecture, land development, and real estate, too.
Give your brand a personality.
There’s good reason why Disney Inc. is a household brand – it’s thanks to its cute mascot, Mickey Mouse. Lots of companies employ this age-old tactic because it works. After all, it’s easy to recall something that’s fun and adorable. And when customers remember you, they are more inclined to keep your number on their phones.
Other successful companies that use mascots include: Michelin, Monopoly, The Laughing Cow, Planters, Kellog’s Frosted Flakes, Procter & Gamble, Nintendo, S. C. Johnson, Pillsbury, and Pringles.
Think outside the box.
Who says that building stuff needs to be brown and boring? If traditional isn’t your style, don’t be afraid to go down a more offbeat path. Ditch the regular hammer, house, and tree graphics; opt instead for eccentric icons such as animals, abstract concepts, or even pop culture references.
Say, for instance, that you are a contractor from Texas. Why not pick the Lone Star state as your muse and use a star on the design? Want to make customers feel like they’ve made a wise decision choosing you? Put an owl on your logo.
